Chevy Volt Storms to the Top
General Motors added yet another notch to their belt today, as their foray into the electric vehicle market continues to gather unstoppable momentum. The Chevrolet Volt, an extended-range electric car produced by the automotive giant has surpassed all other GM vehicles currently produce in terms of demand and popularity. Conscious motorists are literally flocking toward the Volt partially because of its inherent performance and environmentally friendly operation, but also due to an air of exclusivity.
As it stands, Volts are selling at a rate which is equal to or greater than the rate at which Chevrolet can produce them, with a three month total of 982 as of February 28th. Anticlimactic in general car terms, but the figure is predicted to increase exponentially with up to 10,000 intended for production throughout the year.
Winner of North American Car of the Year, the ‘Chevy’ Volt has a range of around 5 miles using batteries alone, which are subsequently charged when the combustion engine kicks in to take over. Such eliminates the general range limitations of electric cars, putting the Volt a full furlong ahead of the competition.
Buyers are not the only ones set to profit, as former employees laid off by General Motors during times of hardship are also set to reap the whirlwind of the booming market, being offered first refusal of all new positions the company creates to fill production requirements.
