How about a 5 Passenger Chevy Volt MPV?

How about a 5 Passenger Chevy Volt MPV?GM has been pleasantly surprised at the overwhelming acceptance of the Chevy Volt and praise from consumers and analysts alike. The company is not sitting idle as Volts begin to roll off its assembly lines. Instead GM is working hard to build on the success by rolling out a hatchback version of the Volt as well as an MPV that can seat five in the next 3 years.

The Chevy Volt has revolutionized the electric car market by removing the distance limitation and associated fear of running out of juice. Nick Reilly who runs GM in Europe said that a new series of Volts will show up in 2015.

A larger model of the Volt is a good fit in the American market where a majority of the vehicles can accommodate small families. The Tesla Model S will be reaching the same market segment when it debuts in mid-2012 featuring a full 7 seats. What the Volt MPV is planned to have that the Tesla Model S won’t have is a reasonably low price. GM hopes to offer the new models for less than $30,000. If tax rebates are still available then, the effective price could be in the low 20’s. The combination of a realistic price, seating for the whole family and a 300 or 400 mile range could make the offering very appealing to a public who is inclined to buy electric – if all else is equal.
