More Space between Kindle and Nook with AT&T Deal
In the battle of the eReaders, Amazon has just received a major boost for its own branded, dedicated eReader the Kindle. AT&T, one of the leading mobile phone network providers in America, has announced that it will sell the Kindle in its high street stores. AT&T and Amazon will be expecting a boost in sales by having the device in high street stores that also benefit from the huge customer base of AT&T. Amazon has previously stated that the new third generation of the Kindle is now the best selling product ever on its website. It moved to the top spot by beating sales on Christmas day of the 7th Harry Potter book.
This move by AT&T also points to a change in direction for the company especially in view of the fact that they will no longer be the exclusive supplier of iPads and iPhones as Verizon enter the fray. AT&T will have competing products in their stores with the iPhone going up against Android smart phones and in this case the Kindle will be on shelves next to the iPad. Customers can then compare the two products side by side and decide which is best for them. It is also important to note that the Kindle is exclusively connected to the Amazon book store whereas the iPad has the iBook store as well as a Kindle application to view books from Amazon. There is of course a big difference between the two in price with the Kindle being significantly cheaper.
This deal between these two major players in their respective industries can only be bad news for Barnes and Noble who are busy playing catch up with their Nook eReader.
